Bryan just loved your video…I’m just trying the audio thing and still haven’t mastered that…how did NY go? I suspect that they thought you had an accent.
Thanks slpmartin! NY is at the end of the month. I’ll probably be posting a few more videos before just to practice my reading voice. The audio thing is more complex than video. For audio, you have to purchase credits (if you use WordPress). But I think embedding a video is free and easier.
Resume: 25 years of beauty school, and on hands experience, I own every bottle of hair elixir available, and work miracles with bed hair…references too, especially the um uh gay son…I predict you are a tosser and a turner, with a little added stress sweat for that added frontal spike fhingy thang…
Love it Marshall Borland!
Do not tell me you have gone to NY yet, I though it was in a week or so???
Oh, and my resume…includes on set catering, brow wiping, but I refuse to do windows and following you into the potty, but I will hand feed you if necessary…
Well well well, imagine a LEO talking about his hair! You look good and you know it honey. As for that accent, it drips like butter off a flapjack. I agree with Annmarie, they will adore you in the big apple, just remember to behave yourself and take a shit load of drool worthy photos to share with us peasants. HUGS Well done baby boy, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE you seven OCD times.
I love your appreciation of my complexities! *Seven words* Also, I love butter. And flapjacks. And ain’t no peasants here, Miss V. We are all kings and queens!
Remember how we talked about the ‘Southern-ness’ of your work? Well, this made it a lot more Southern for me, Bryan, and I love it. This is one of my favorite poems as well, and hearing you read it made me appreciate it even more.
Oscars will be lovely. Time to honor Meryl Streep again. Hope Bigelow wins for ‘Hurt Locker’. Would like to see Firth pull an upset with ‘A Serious Man’, but it’s not gonna happen.
That’s my favorite poem in the book, too, Bryan. Imagine one poem that gives the poet’s perspective on a whole family — his family — in the way that they react to him… amazing!
Godspeed in the race. I can’t help with hair or makeup, I’m more of a marathon coach.
Beat last year’s time, Ray… with very little training, a funeral, ice storms, and a damn pain in my arch… but I made it and am proud! MY GOD my nip guards came off halfway through the race and my right nipple, especially, burns! Can you appreciate my pain?
vlogs are a brilliant way for poets to share thier work, the agonies of creation etc. You read beautifully and the poem is an amazing piece of work. I felt for your family, fell in love with your brother
It was powerful when you wrote it, but god damn it, Bry-Bry, you made me cry just now. Really, really bad.
I love this piece so much. You definitely need to do this more often. I wish I were nearer, I’d do your hair and makeup for near-free. (Hey, a guy’s gotta fund his habits, right?)
Thanks, Bryan. This really … really moved me. I didn’t know how much emotion the voice carried over. You need to do more of these, and soon!
AND I CAN’T WAIT TO READ YOUR BOOK OH MY GOD.
I’m just going to curl up with it, have a good cry, live and die within sentences, and have so many lives under my belt that it won’t even be funny. Your voice, my friend, my mommy, is definitely a loud one in my cloud of echoes.
You inspire me to reach deeper, and pull more of myself out; you inspire me to be a more authentic poet.
I was like, omg, Bryan has no accent anymore. But apparently sharper ears than mine were afoot. I love mixing metaphors or body parts or whatever the previous sentence classifies is.
Video/audio adds a cool dimension. Love the family stuff.
I can’t help but think you need a dose of my energy next time around.
wonderful poem. i think that really captures the spirit. i have many gay friends and so i know a bit of how it goes.. you are great with words i can only say i’m flattered to be commenting on the blog of a rising literary figure. amazing. congratulations, as well, on the book.
First: Bryan, I’m so sorry it’s been so long since I’ve commented or anything. Spring break has left me more than a little distracted, haha.
Second: Aaaahhh! I’m absolutely in love with your voice; it’s rich and delicious like apple pie, with an accent to die for that tops it all off like whipped cream. It’s nice to finally hear a voice to put with all the words.
Third: This poem was ca-raaazy (in a good way). I loved “as she traveled the stages of grief from the passenger seat” and “collapsed houses on the bodies of grandsons and granddaughters.”
Mister, evidently you haven’t heard the rule that poets aren’t supposed to be sexy and smoky-voiced and taunting their readership with vlogs that emphasize these qualities. (Seriously. Do you think Gwendolyn Brooks ever pulled this?)
Bryan, Bryan, Bryan… Thank you for that. What a pleasure to see and hear you in “real” time. You have a wonderful voice and a great laid back style. I even liked your hair. If a nap can do all that, we should all take more naps!
Did I ever tell you I have an older brother named Brian? He’s a trip. I think of him when I read you and expecially when you write about your lost brother. My Brian went to Viet Nam as a pre-med student and returned to become a mortician. Lots of material there…
But back to you. I saw the email earlier that told me I had a comment from you – and I arrived to find so very much to comprehend that I had to wait until I could really spend some time here. So much despair and grieving – so much talent to move others to cope with their own. You own this blog. You own your future. You own it all.
Oh New York is going to go apeshit for that accent baby!!
You know that is one of my favorites. Well done!
We should duet together, Annmarie. Jersey-drawl?

Hell we both have accents don’t we…

You know where to find m’E
You’re hired! I can only pay you in inappropriate comments.
That’s fabulous. A terrific reading and your hair looks great. Now I know you are real.
Sometimes I have to check myself, Gabrielle.
Thanks for watching!
Well done Bryan, excellent reading.
And don’t worry about the hair LOL. I WISH I had enough of it to get to stick up.
Enjoy your weekend.
Does my comment make any sense at all? lol
Yes and it made me laugh, Paul!
Well well well, imagine a LEO talking about his hair!

Haha I’m glad you enjoyed it, QL! I think when I try to downplay my accent, I only make it more intense! Oscars tonight!

What wonderful things to say.

Thank you Dhyan!
ok, I have a lovely southern friend who made me a button that says “I like men who say dawg.”
Now I need one that says “When Bryan Borland says the word pioneer my knees get weak.”
I agree with Annmarie, NYC is going to fall at your feet.
The piece was stunning and you look/sound awesome sir.
Keep it up.
[absolutely no pun intended]

Hey Karen:
PIONEER
I was like, omg, Bryan has no accent anymore. But apparently sharper ears than mine were afoot. I love mixing metaphors or body parts or whatever the previous sentence classifies is.
Video/audio adds a cool dimension. Love the family stuff.
I can’t help but think you need a dose of my energy next time around.
The world (or at least Val) would LOVE a Bryan/MedicatedLady video!!
Tomorrow. Allegedly.
I was just going to ask the same question.
Brian that cool to hear your voice. Sounds like a Virginian accent? But is it Arkansas?
It’s all Arkansan, baby.
Hello Bryan,
wonderful poem. i think that really captures the spirit. i have many gay friends and so i know a bit of how it goes.. you are great with words
i can only say i’m flattered to be commenting on the blog of a rising literary figure. amazing. congratulations, as well, on the book.
Thank you, Sparrow! I appreciate the comment and encouragement!

First: Due in part to my long and illicit affair with apple pie, your comment makes me very happy.
Second: You aren’t obligated to comment! I know you’re out there!
Third: I enjoy numbered lists.
Mister, evidently you haven’t heard the rule that poets aren’t supposed to be sexy and smoky-voiced and taunting their readership with vlogs that emphasize these qualities. (Seriously. Do you think Gwendolyn Brooks ever pulled this?)
Will your mother mind if I adopt you?
