SOUNDTRACK TO ADAM – DISC 1
by Bryan Borland
Recently, I asked my friend Jørgen from Welcome to All That what songs he would include on a soundtrack to My Life as Adam. Anyone that visits his site knows he’s a pop-culture junky and a human-encyclopedia of all things entertainment. Jørgen and I both have a very intimate relationship with music, so I knew he’d put together something special.
Jørgen didn’t disappoint. Within a few days, the man had an album in the works. It’s very cool for me, as a writer, to see other people’s interpretations of my poetry. I love seeing the songs and emotions Jørgen associates with the poems. I’ll share my own soundtrack to Adam in the future, but for now, I’m off to iTunes. Jørgen’s given me a shopping list.

Apparently I have no musical taste whatsoever, evidenced here by the fact that I only know the REM song on your list. However, I don’t mind being musically limited, after all when there’s ABBA there’s music.
(No I’m not joking, ask Val).
Don’t feel too bad, Paul. I’m a music lover and I didn’t know 12 of these songs! But I’ve checked them out and I’m diggin’ ‘em, yo! Watch for my own playlist to be posted soon!
I look forward to seeing it, Bryan. Maybe I’ll know some of those songs.
Ah Bryan…although I like this concept…I…who knows little about such things would love to hear you read your poems with a sound track as background music during the reading…why you ask…hell I don’t know…but I would just like it better…never ask a poet their oppinion.
I will *ALWAYS* ask a poet his or her opinion because those opinions are never boring! Let me see what I can do to meet your request without breaking any copyright laws… are you available to sing in the background as I read?
That is a very cool idea. Soundtrack to the book and some great songs too.
I know you love music as much as we do, Paul… I got that feeling from The Puzzle Box.
I puked in my mouth and then swallowed it to get the taste of Taylor Swift out. Redemption came with Savoy and life got better when I saw Willie Nelson, Steve Earle, Ani DiFranco, and Mellencamp made the list. As hard as it is to admit, “I want it that way” is a song that I like. Actually, in rural Jamaica, there is a little, little theme park (I use that term loosely) that blared that song nonstop in December 2002. It was the oddest thing. Now that I think about it, I may have been brainwashed into liking it.
TAYLOR HATER!!!!
Bryan…I would sing in the background for your poetry readings…but I’m afraid you sales could not stand the hit…but I am certain that there are folks with musical talents out there that would just love to add the sound track to your readings…perhaps a music student at a local university might want to take the project on…just another random thought.
Lucky you – and what a great idea. But what’s happened to your blog – I’m getting double vision (overlapping columns)?
I’ve been toying with the theme and layout for a few days (without much success). I get that itch every few months, but I always end up coming back to this one. I liked the layout I had, but it was showing up funky in different browsers. Back to the drawing board!
that is so very cool Bryan. it is a great idea and i should really sit myself one day to read it along with those songs. i have never thought of associating poems with songs which are seemingly unrelated.
